Privacy policy
Last updated July 16, 2026Data SoundShelf stores
SoundShelf stores the name and email address you provide, a one-way password hash, audiobook files and metadata you upload, sharing choices, listening progress, and session records needed to keep you signed in. Optional Plex credentials are encrypted at rest. Full non-App-Store clients may separately connect optional third-party audiobook services; the Mac App Store edition cannot connect to those services or access titles imported from them.
How data is used
Data is used only to authenticate you, operate your private library, convert files you upload to MP3 or M4A, synchronize playback, share titles you choose with members, and provide optional Plex integration. SoundShelf has no advertising, third-party analytics, cross-app tracking, or sale of personal data.
Retention and deletion
Account data is retained while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account from Profile & password. SoundShelf then removes your account, sessions, encrypted integrations, listening history, private book records, app-managed media, and offline downloads on that device. Files deliberately exported to an administrator-managed Plex library or independent backup are controlled by that administrator and must be removed there separately.
Security and processors
Connections use HTTPS. Authorization secrets are encrypted at rest. SoundShelf sends data only to services you explicitly configure, such as your Plex server, and to infrastructure required to operate this private SoundShelf deployment.
Your choices
You may update your name, email, and password or delete your account inside the app. Contact the SoundShelf administrator through the support page for access or deletion questions.
